An open-source desktop chat app that runs models offline, keeps conversations as local files and can expose a local API.
- Open source
- Works offline after setup
- Local API server
A desktop app for finding, downloading and chatting with open language models, with a built-in local server for other apps.
LM Studio is a desktop app for running open language models on your own computer. You search for a model inside the app, pick a file size that fits your memory, download it and start a chat, without touching a terminal.
Behind the chat window it can run a local server that speaks a format many other apps already understand, so editors, scripts and note tools can send requests to a model on your machine. It also lets you attach documents to a chat and change settings such as context length and how much of the model goes to the GPU.
It suits people who want a graphical way to try several models and compare them. Check that a model's license allows your use before you build on it, and expect large models to need a machine with plenty of memory.
